Borden Chemical (aka Consolidated Foam)
1625 Federal St. (Block 1184, Lot 5)
The site has been the home of steam heating supply manufacturing, printing ink manufacturing, and wire manufacturing. It once contained a multi-story industrial building, a portion of which was destroyed by fire in the late 1990s and later demolished. The remaining buildings were also damaged by fire and scrap metal scavenging. The site now consists of concrete slabs and building foundations.
Site soils are contaminated above state standards for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), PAHs, non-TSCA regulated PCBs, and several metals, including arsenic and lead. Groundwater was found to have arsenic and chlorinated VOCs. Currently, the CRA has contracted with a Licensed Site Remediation Professional and is proceeding with remediation of soils at the site.
