CRA Role:
City of Camden Comprehensive Plan
Narrative:
With the demolition of the Riverfront State Prison in 2010, the City of Camden and CRA have embarked on a redevelopment planning effort for 88 acres of waterfront land in North Camden. The former prison site accounts for roughly 1/3 of the planning study area, and is owned by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA). Conceptual plans to date call for a phased build-out of mixed use developments that will include residential units, retail space, a waterfront promenade, and several new or extended streets. With close proximity to downtown Camden, Rutgers University, and the Ben Franklin Bridge, this project is expected to become a thriving destination for Camden and the entire South Jersey region.
