Port-A-Pot Site

Port-A-Pot Site

1601 Federal St. (Block 1182, Lots 5 and 21)
The site is located near the Marlton neighborhood and the Conrail railroad switching station and includes two tax lots totaling approximately three acres in size. R.F. Smith and Son Lumber & Coal Company operated at Lots 5 and 21 from about 1900 through approximately 1920. The Standard Oil Company operated at the site between 1907 and 1926. By 1977 all of Standard Oil’s onsite operations ceased, and the site was used as a contractor’s storage yard, with the exception of a filling station shown on the eastern side of a building on tax Lot 21. Wood pallets were then stored onsite in the late 1990s. The site was abandoned around 2000, and the last known use was a portable toilet rental facility. The site is currently vacant and owned by the City of Camden via tax foreclosure.
Several areas of concern were identified in a Preliminary Assessment (PA) Report and Site Investigation (SI) Report. In 2002 one unregulated 500-gallon heating oil underground storage tank was excavated and removed, and three shallow groundwater monitoring wells were installed on Lot 21. Currently, the CRA has contracted with a Licensed Site Remediation Professional to conduct additional assessment activities at the site.
